The lip filler conversation is not just about wanting bigger lips. Lip border, upper and lower lip relationship, smile movement and profile are evaluated together. Describing your own facial features can be more helpful than trying to copy a look on social media. This article explains the topics that should be discussed in the interview for a personal decision.
Translating the volume desire into a more concrete goal
Clarifying the lip border, supporting lost volume, and reducing the difference between the two sides are different goals. Explain which of these goals is a priority for you. The relationship of the lips to the rest of the face is also included in the evaluation. A prominent upper lip alone does not mean a good proportion. Front and profile images and movement during speech should be examined together. The physician should explain that the filler will not change the lip structure or bone relationship. Knowing from the beginning that it may not be possible to capture the result in a photograph provides a more realistic interview.
Not overlooking the smile and dental support
Lips are not an immobile facial part; It looks different when talking, laughing, and closing the mouth. Tooth support, lip length and natural asymmetry can affect the volume plan. Just looking at a selfie taken from the front does not provide sufficient information during the examination. If you have had a filler before, share the name, amount and date of the product if known. If the location or type of old product is unclear, the physician may recommend additional evaluation. Adding new volume will not correct every old asymmetry. Recording pre-existing differences helps interpret subsequent changes correctly.
Herpes, dental procedures and health information
If you have active herpes or infection around the mouth, let me know before your appointment. Provide information about recent or planned dental procedures; The physician evaluates the timing. Allergies, immune system diseases, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and medications that affect the risk of bleeding should be discussed in the interview. Some of the products used in lip filler contain hyaluronic acid, but not every product is the same. Discuss product ingredients and previous reactions. Do not start medication for herpes at your own discretion. If the physician deems it necessary, he/she must determine the prevention or postponement plan based on your personal history.
Not looking for ready-made recipes for quantity and product
There is no one milliliter amount that suits everyone. Tissue flexibility, current volume, previous filler, and target change vary. More product does not mean a more balanced or natural look. The physician should explain why he or she recommends a particular product and a phased or single-session approach. The dissolving option for hyaluronic acid-based products can be considered in some cases; This is a medical procedure with separate risks. Not every filler can be dissolved in the same way and complete reversal cannot be promised. Include the option of not having the procedure in your evaluation.
Discussing when to evaluate risk and consequence
Swelling, bruising, tenderness and asymmetry may occur; Volume in the first days is not the final look. Infection, nodules and vascular occlusion are among the more serious risks. Unusual pain, paleness or darkening, and change in vision require immediate evaluation. Ask about the clinic's intervention and referral plan for such symptoms. Follow-up may need to be done after the edema has subsided, but the exact time depends on the individual. Lip fillers are not permanent. Do not expect guarantees regarding the duration of results, level of symmetry, or achieving the same lip shape as someone else.
Is one milliliter suitable for everyone?
No. The initial volume, texture characteristics and previous products are different. The amount must be justified based on personal examination and the goal; A ready-made number is not a fitness assessment.
Does lip filler completely erase natural asymmetry?
There is no such guarantee. Movement, dental support, and anatomical differences may persist. The goal and achievable change should be discussed clearly with the physician.
Is the great look on the first day a permanent result?
No. Early swelling may affect the appearance. The result is evaluated at the follow-up time determined by the physician; Do not make a new quantity decision from the first photo.
