Cheek fillers: suitability and consultation

The goal of cheekbone filler surgery is not just to make the cheeks look more prominent. Midface volume, bone support, under-eye transition, and tissue movement during smiling are evaluated together. The person who wants a subtle profile change and the person who wants to replace lost volume may not have the same plan. Personal examination establishes this distinction.

Seeing the entire midface

The zygomatic area appears together with the surrounding tissues of the face. Although a shadow under the eye or a line around the mouth may direct you to this area, not every complaint is caused by lack of zygomatic volume. The physician evaluates from the front, profile and oblique angle. Initial bilateral differences and smile movement are recorded. Tissue laxity and volume loss are separate topics. Ask which area the filler is expected to provide support; Don't assume it will remove the entire lower face. The contour appearing in the same photograph in different light may also change your expectations; Describe the target through your face.

A more defined contour is not always more balanced

Another person's high zygomatic appearance may not have the same relationship with your bone structure and facial width. Front view and profile should be considered together. The physician should explain the reason for the recommended amount and placement; There is no standard volume for everyone. Too much product can make the midface look wide or heavy. The existing natural definition may limit the need for additional volume in some people. If your goal is just light support, say so clearly. The option of a phased approach or no implementation at all may be discussed. Don't expect perfect symmetry and the promise of replicating another face.

The role of legacy product and health history

Share the product name, date and reactions of previous zygomatic or under-eye fillers. Persistent products or products of unknown origin may require additional investigation. Facial surgery and other injections are also included in the evaluation. Active infection, allergy, immune system problem, pregnancy or breastfeeding are important. Provide a complete list of medications and supplements that affect bleeding risk. Also report any recent dental procedures. Do not stop any medication at your own discretion. Just because you had a good experience in the past does not mean that the new procedure is in the same conditions.

Talking about product selection and boundaries

The product to be used in zygomatic filler depends on personal target and texture evaluation. If a hyaluronic acid-based option is recommended, ask for the exact product name and why that product was chosen. This ingredient name does not imply that all fillers are the same. The filler does not change the bone structure and does not provide the same results as surgery in cases of significant laxity. Not every problem under the eyes or around the mouth can be corrected indirectly. Options, including alternatives and monitoring alone, should be discussed in the interview. Dissolving may be considered for some products, but it is not a guarantee of a risk-free and complete restoration of the original appearance; Not all products can be dissolved the same way.

Knowing the risks and when to evaluate

Swelling, bruising, tenderness, asymmetry and nodules may be observed. Infection and vascular occlusion are more serious risks. The risk of severe consequences such as vision loss due to vascular connections in the midface should also be included in the information. Any unusual pain, paleness, darkening, or change in vision requires immediate evaluation. The physician should explain the control time and communication plan. Early contouring is not the final result due to initial edema. It cannot be guaranteed that the effect will last for a certain period of time, the disappearance of all shadows under the eyes or perfect facial balance. Consider written consent and care plan as part of the decision.

Does zygomatic filler lift the entire face?

There is no such guarantee. Midface support and significant tissue laxity are different issues. The goal and achievable change should be explained in the personal examination.

Do two apples need an equal amount?

It is not necessary. The initial anatomy and existing differences may not be the same. Before calculating the amount, facial balance and the justification for the procedure should be evaluated.

Does under-eye shadow necessarily diminish?

No. There can be many reasons for the shadow. Although zygomatic support is considered in some plans, complete resolution of the under-eye problem should not be promised; separate evaluation may be required.
